5-Axis CNC Machined Robot Swing Arm Bracket

This is a custom 5-axis CNC machined swing arm link bracket for a humanoid robot, machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy. The part serves as the external structural connection between adjacent joint segments, transferring loads during joint movement while keeping overall weight to a minimum
7075-T6 aluminum alloy was selected for this part due to its high tensile strength, good machinability, and low density. Compared to the more common 6061 alloy, 7075-T6 offers significantly higher strength, making it well suited for structural components in humanoid robots where both load-bearing performance and weight reduction are critical requirements.
Located at one end of the arm, the large circular flange bore is the primary interface for bearing or motor shaft connection. The surrounding bolt pattern provides secure fastening to the adjacent joint component. The main arm body follows a curved profile to optimize the load path between the two connection points. Internal weight-reduction cavities are machined into the arm while retaining structural ribs to maintain stiffness and strength.
Project Details
Part type: Custom Robotic Swing Arm Link Bracket
Material: 7075-T6 Aluminum Alloy
Machining Process: 5-Axis CNC Milling
Surface Finish: As-Machined
Machining Process
The part was machined from a solid 7075-T6 aluminum alloy billet using a 5-axis CNC milling center. The process followed these general steps:
- Raw material preparation – Aluminum billet cut to approximate size
- Roughing – Bulk material removed to establish overall form
- Semi-finishing – Key surfaces brought close to final dimensions
- Finishing – Final passes on all critical surfaces to achieve required tolerances and surface finish
- Hole machining – Drilling, boring, and tapping of all hole features
- Deburring and cleaning – All edges deburred and parts cleaned before inspection
Each part was inspected to ensure dimensional accuracy before surface treatment.
