CNC Machining of Transmission Housing for Automation Systems

The component shown is a structural CNC machined transmission housing used in an industrial automation assembly. It serves as the chassis for a belt-drive system, connecting the drive motor to the output shaft. Manufactured from Aluminum 6061-T6, the part is designed to provide rigid support for bearings and shafts while minimizing the overall moving mass of the equipment.
The component has a high aspect ratio (long and thin). Removing material from the center pocket releases internal residual stresses in the aluminum stock, causing the part to bow or twist.
We a symmetric machining strategy was employed. Material was removed from both sides in roughing stages, followed by a stress-relief pause. The final finishing pass on the datum face was performed with minimal clamping force to ensure the flatness remained within 0.05mm after release.
