Delrin (POM/Acetal) CNC Machining Services

We provide precision CNC milling and turning services for Delrin (POM/Acetal) components. Delrin is an engineering thermoplastic known for its high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability, making it an ideal replacement for metal in many applications.

Why Choose Delrin for CNC Machining?

Delrin, also known as Acetal/POM (Polyoxymethylene), is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance, self-lubrication and dimensional stability. It is divided into homopolymer Delrin and copolymer Delrin, both of which are widely used in CNC machining due to their good machinability, and are known as “engineering plastics with metal-like performance”.

Applications of Delrin CNC Machined Parts

Due to its excellent performance, Delrin CNC machined parts are widely used in various industries, especially in scenarios requiring wear resistance, self-lubrication and high precision. The main application fields are as follows:

Mechanical Transmission Industry

Gears, bearings, shafts, sliding blocks, guide rails, etc. Delrin’s self-lubrication and wear resistance can reduce the friction between parts, extend the service life of mechanical equipment, and ensure stable operation.

Automotive Industry

Automotive interior parts (handles, knobs), door and window accessories, fuel system parts, transmission system components, etc. It has good impact resistance and chemical resistance, and can adapt to the harsh environment inside and outside the car.

Electronic & Electrical Industry

Connector terminals, insulating parts, switch components, sensor shells, etc. It has good insulation performance and dimensional stability, which can ensure the normal operation of electronic and electrical products.

Medical Equipment Industry

Medical instrument accessories, surgical instrument parts, medical pipeline connectors, etc. It is non-toxic, tasteless, has good biocompatibility, and meets medical industry standards.

Core Grade Classification

Delrin (Polyoxymethylene, POM) is available in two primary families, each optimized for distinct performance needs—both are highly compatible with precision CNC machining:

Key Homopolymer Grades

Offer higher tensile strength, rigidity, and creep resistance, ideal for load-bearing and high-precision components.

  • Delrin 500: A general-purpose homopolymer with balanced mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and machinability—making it the most widely used Delrin grade for CNC fabrication, ideal for producing precision gears, electronic housing clips, mounting brackets, and insulating structural parts for the electronic & electrical industry.
  • Delrin 100: A high-viscosity homopolymer with exceptional impact resistance and toughness, suited for fabricating heavy-duty components like bearing seats, load-bearing pins, and industrial equipment fasteners via CNC machining.
  • Delrin 500P: A wear-resistant homopolymer with PTFE additives, delivering superior self-lubrication and reduced friction, making it perfect for CNC-machined moving parts such as linear guides, slider components, and gear assemblies in automation equipment.
  • Delrin 500AF: A carbon fiber-reinforced homopolymer with 20% higher strength and rigidity, featuring minimal warpage during CNC machining, ideal for high-precision structural components, aerospace brackets, and electronic equipment frames.

Key Copolymer Grades

Provide better chemical resistance, thermal stability, and hydrolysis resistance, suitable for harsh environments and low-lubrication applications.

  • Delrin 500CL: A wear-resistant copolymer with internal lubricants, offering excellent dry-run performance and low noise, suited for CNC-machined dry-running gears, conveyor system components, and medical device actuators.
  • Delrin 900P: A high-stiffness copolymer with low creep, maintaining dimensional integrity under continuous load, ideal for precision fasteners, valve components, and electronic connector housings produced via CNC.
  • Delrin 100ST: An ultra-tough copolymer with enhanced impact resistance even at low temperatures, making it suitable for CNC-machined outdoor electronic enclosures, automotive sensor brackets, and vibration-dampening parts.
  • Delrin 525GR: A 25% glass fiber-reinforced copolymer with high strength and dimensional stability, ideal for complex CNC-machined geometries such as heavy-duty structural brackets, industrial tooling fixtures, and electronic equipment mounting plates.

Delrin CNC Machining Cases

We have rich experience in Delrin CNC machining, serving customers in various industries and delivering a large number of high-quality Delrin machined parts. The following are typical cases (for privacy, partial details are hidden):

FAQs About CNC Machining Services

Delrin has very low moisture absorption (0.2%) compared to Nylon, making it stable in wet environments.

Delrin is difficult to bond due to its chemical resistance. Mechanical fastening or snap-fits are recommended.

Choose Delrin for stiffness and moisture resistance. Choose Nylon for impact strength and toughness.

Standard lead times are typically 10–15 business days. Expedited services (Rapid Prototyping) can be completed in as little as 3–5 business days, depending on part complexity and material availability.

In most cases, we source materials from our approved suppliers to ensure quality control. However, we can machine customer-supplied materials for specialized alloys or specific requirements upon engineering review.

Unless otherwise specified, our general tolerance standard is ISO 2768-m (±0.125 mm) for metals and ±0.25 mm for plastics. Precision tolerances ±0.005 mm are achievable but must be explicitly stated in 2D technical drawings.

Our facility can accommodate parts up to 4000 x 1500 x 600 mm for milling and Ø200 mm x 500 mm for turning.

Yes. We can install inserts (e.g., Helicoils, PEM fasteners) and perform basic mechanical assembly of machined components prior to shipment.

To provide an accurate quote, we require a 3D CAD file (STEP, IGES, or X_T format). If the part has threaded holes, tight tolerances, or specific surface finish requirements, a 2D PDF drawing must also be provided.

We take IP protection seriously. All files are stored securely, and we are willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to receiving your data.
