As-Machined (Standard) Surface Finish
As-Machined” is the standard finish for all CNC milled and turned parts. It involves no secondary post-processing such as bead blasting, anodizing, or polishing. Parts are cleaned, deburred to remove sharp edges, and shipped with the visible tool path patterns from the cutting process.
Visual Characteristics
- Tool Marks: Visible swirls or lines are present on the surface. These marks follow the path of the cutting tool (e.g., circular marks from facing, linear marks from side milling).
- Texture: The surface feels smooth to the touch but has a slight texture due to the ridges of the tool path.
- Uniformity: The pattern is consistent across machined surfaces, but different faces may show different patterns depending on the machining strategy.

Important Note on Deburring
Even with an “As-Machined” finish, we always perform edge breaking (deburring). Raw CNC parts have razor-sharp edges. Unless otherwise specified, we use tumbling or manual deburring tools to create a small chamfer or radius on all exposed edges for safety and handling.
